Presentation Abstracts
Oracle Coherence Overview and Strategy
Craig Blitz (speaker bio) Senior Group Product Manager (Oracle)
Oracle Coherence now plays a key role in Oracle's Cloud Application Platform. In this talk, learn about some of the major new features in the latest Coherence release that enable developers to scale applications to meet new mobile and cloud demands through features like Live Events, reduce operational costs through Managed Coherence Servers, and enhance deployment options for high availability. Craig will also provide a sneak peak at what is coming in forthcoming releases, and will provide a refresher on Coherence for those who are new to the technology or who's knowledge may be a bit rusty.
Coherence Use Cases
Dave Felcey (speaker bio) Coherence Product Manager (Oracle)
In this presentation, Dave will present several typical customer Coherence use cases. Dave will cover the customer problem, how Coherence works to solve that problem, and what the results of the Coherence solution. Examples will be chosen from a variety of industries tailored to the audience.
Scaling the data layer in a SOA world with multiple bounded contexts
Arun Giri (speaker bio) Lead Engineer – Enterprise Architect (Union Pacific)
UPRR's NextGen Logistics and transportation management system (NetControl) is a complex and massively distributed system. At the heart of this is a large conceptual data model which describes the key Domain entities, relationships and transaction boundaries (bounded contexts). We manage many of these domain contexts on the data layer in technologies most suited for the scope and scale, but expose the underlying data uniformly via web services to the Domain Layers. For the Equipment domain problem, where we have to track and manage the current state of millions of rolling-stock on our network, we chose to use Coherence to meet the scale and response time requirements. In this talk, I will focus on our efforts in the last 9 months building a SOA and ALM framework around Coherence and how it allowed us to build many system of record (SOR) caches rapidly and expose them via web services. Also as part of this talk, I will cover our Architectural approach and details on how this is helping us seamlessly scale the data layer, provide double digit response times and greatly simplify our Data service patterns.
Deploy Highly-Available Custom Services on Your Data Grid
Brian Oliver (speaker bio) Senior Principal Solutions Architect (Oracle)
In this talk we examine some of the new configuration features in Coherence 12.1.2, and in particular walk through how to create your own application specific configurable highly-available Cluster-managed services. Possible uses for this paradigm include; embedding intelligent application agents (like complex event handlers and schedulers), pre-warming and initializing caches or integrating framework infrastructure like Spring or Guice.
